Financial Anxiety, Scarcity, and Enoughness with Lindsay Bryan-Podvin

I had the pleasure of interviewing Lindsay Bryan-Podvin of Mind Money Balance on the latest episode of Beyond the Couch with Bridges about all things money, mental health, and culture. I’m a personal finance nerd and had been following her IG and podcast for a few years, so it was a treat to finally connect. We talk about the anxieties we have about money and how to cultivate a healthier relationship with our finances. Additionally, we specifically discuss the mental, cultural, and emotional hurdles that keep many people, especially those who identify as BIPOC or come from immigrant backgrounds, from gaining financial literacy. We also talk about how to cultivate a sense of “enoughness” in the midst of a capitalistic society and how to approach money in a way that aligns with our values. Lindsay makes the point that so much of personal finance advice comes from a place of white privilege and outdated notions of “the American dream” and explains how decolonizing attitudes towards debt and money can lead to greater empowerment for all.
