Therapy for Asian Americans

Who I Work With

I help Asian American adults in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts navigate questions of identity, self-worth, relationships, and career. Many of my clients appear high-functioning on the outside, but privately struggle with self-doubt, overthinking, burnout, or feeling disconnected from themselves. Therapy offers a space to slow down, gain clarity, and build a more grounded sense of self.

Common challenges my clients face include

  • Unresolved trauma and early relational wounds.

  • Anxiety, chronic overthinking, and self-criticism.

  • Career burnout, perfectionism, and imposter feelings.

  • People-pleasing and difficulty setting boundaries.

  • Relationship anxiety and challenges with dating and intimacy.

  • Identity exploration and cultural stress.

  • Major life transitions and uncertainty about decisions.

Whatever your focus, therapy helps you understand patterns, process emotions, and strengthen self-trust, creating meaningful change in how you relate to yourself and others.

My Approach

I draw from psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), somatic approaches, mindfulness-based therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), and solution-focused approaches.

As a native New Yorker, 2nd generation Taiwanese-American, and digital nomad living overseas, I understand the cultural, familial, and intergenerational dynamics that often shape identity, achievement, and emotional expression. Our work together may include exploring family history, cultural expectations, attachment patterns, and how these influence your present relationships and choices.

My style has been described as warm, direct, and collaborative. I provide steady support while encouraging growth and accountability, helping you clarify your needs, strengthen self-trust, and move toward a life that feels more aligned and grounded.

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

“I've gained a more grounded sense of myself...In many ways, I think I feel more comfortable living my own life on my own terms, not in a self-isolating way, but in a way that acknowledges that others may not understand why I do the things I do and that's part of being a separate human from others and that's okay.”

“She managed to strike a great balance between being gentle and firm, validating and thought-provoking, while helping me affirm my self-worth and navigate my environments in a way that was true and respectful to myself. Most importantly, Diana helped me feel seen and not alone, which I deeply appreciate particularly during the traumatic year I had.”

“Working with Diana expanded the way that I understand myself and helped me feel safer and more connected to myself and my family in really meaningful ways.”

How therapy works

Therapy is a reflective, ongoing process focused on healing and understanding patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and relationships. Together, we’ll explore experiences, develop coping strategies, and cultivate lasting change.

Scheduling

The alliance between a therapist and client is an essential component for successful outcomes. Because of this, I initially meet with new clients on a weekly basis to build trust and consistency. Frequency may be adjusted over time as appropriate.

Rates

  • First 60-minute session: $365

  • Subsequent 45-minute sessions: $275

  • Payments accepted via credit card or Zelle.

Under the No Surprises Act, clients have a right to receive a “good faith estimate” of expected charges, explaining how much your care will cost. This will be provided as a separate document prior to beginning therapy. More details about this law and what it means for you can be found here.

Insurance

I am an out-of-network provider and do not accept insurance. Many insurance plans cover out-of-network care (reimbursing 60-80% of session costs). I provide itemized receipts (“superbills”) for you to submit to your insurance.

Insurance benefits can be complicated to navigate, so I’ve provided a step-by-step guide to determining how much your plan covers. I’m happy to answer questions or assist during our consultation.
