Frequently Asked Questions about Therapy

How does Teletherapy work?

I conduct teletherapy over video using an easy-to-use, secure, and HIPAA-compliant platform. You will be sent a meeting invitation with a link to our session. You’ll simply click on this at our appointment time to log-in. I will review some guidelines with you prior to our first session to ensure that you have the best possible experience.

WHO CAN YOU WORK WITH?

I am licensed to practice psychotherapy in NY, NJ, MA, and FL, which means that you must be physically located in NY, NJ, MA, or FL at the time of our therapy session, even if it is teletherapy. License regulations prohibit me from working with you as a therapist if you are located outside of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, or Florida.

WHAT Goals can i work on in therapy?

Great question! I’ve written more about that here.

How long are Therapy sessions and how frequentLy will we meet?

The initial assessment is 60 minutes and subsequent weekly sessions are 45 minutes. Initially we will meet on a weekly basis, but this may be adjusted over time if appropriate. I will work with you to find a regular time that works with your schedule.

What can I expect during my Consultation and First session?

The goal of the consultation is for us to see if we’re a good fit for each other. We’ll discuss your concerns and what you hope to gain from therapy. I will also answer any questions you might have about therapy, my training, scheduling, and insurance. At the end of the consultation, if it feels like we could work well together, we’ll schedule the first session.

We’ll spend the first few sessions exploring where your issues come from and what factors contribute to maintaining them. This information will then guide how we’ll work to help you resolve them. While revealing yourself to a stranger may feel vulnerable, I try to make this process as comfortable as possible by listening with acceptance and curiosity, reflecting back what I hear so you can confirm if my understanding is accurate, and collaborating with you to link your experiences with your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. We’ll look at your current life, your early life, and even your “life” in the therapy session with me to find common themes. Thematic issues are core issues, which can initially feel harder to work on and can bring up more pain, but ultimately provide longer term relief when resolved. If you suffer from acute symptoms like insomnia, anxiety, or anger, we’ll explore and practice coping strategies that you can implement for immediate relief.

DO YOU ACCEPT insurance?

No, I do not. I am considered an “out-of-network provider.” Many insurance companies cover out-of-network providers and will reimburse between 60-80% of the cost of sessions. If your plan covers out-of-network providers, you would issue payment to me at the time of service and your insurance will then reimburse you. I issue a monthly “superbill” or itemized receipt, which you would submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Insurance benefits can be complicated to navigate, so I’ve provided a step-by-step guide to determining how much your plan covers. I’m happy to answer questions or assist during our consultation.

WHAT ARE YOUR RATES And How do you accept Payment?

My rates are as follows: $365 for the first 60-minute initial assessment session and $275 for subsequent 45-minute sessions. Payments are accepted via credit card.

Under the No Surprises Act, clients have a right to receive a “good faith estimate” of expected charges, explaining how much your care will cost. This will be provided as a separate document prior to beginning therapy. More details about this law and what it means for you can be found here.

This all Sounds Great. How do I get started?
